Fake Lottery operator arraigned by EFCC

A 26 years old Bassey Okhiria has been arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for operating a fake lottery scheme.
The Anti-Graft agency said Okhiria through the fake scheme tried to dupe unsuspecting members of the public, adding that he is a member of a group operating from Ogun State.

Okhiria and some other members of his group were arrested in the Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu areas of Ogun State by the EFCC.
The accused was arraigned before Justice O. A. Ipaye on a four-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent document containing false information “contrary to sections 6, 8(b) and 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, Cap. A6, Law of the Federation of Nigeria.

The charges reads, “That you, Bassey Okhiria (a.k.a Robert J. Holley) on or before March 3, 2014, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, had in your possession document wherein you falsely represented to one Dr. Katty Sander that you are a US Federal Government agent and that he has won $100,000 lottery from the government.”
“That you, Bassey Okhiria (a.k.a Robert J. Holley), on or before March 3, 2014, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, with intent to defraud, had in your possession document wherein you falsely represented to one Mary Rustan, that you are a US Federal Government agent, and that he has won $100,000 lottery from the government.”

Okhiria however pleaded guilty to the charges.

Babatunde Shonoiki, the prosecution counsel, afterwards asked the Court to set a trial date; he further prayed the court to remand the accused in prison custody.  
Justice Ipaye however adjourned the case till March 23 and 24th of this year for further hearing, while ordering that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the application of bail
