The rapper, who has, without a hint of irony, compared himself to an all-knowing creator on a number of occasions, will now be honored for his charmingly sense of pride with an award from BET.
Kanye’s recent work has earned him the network’s Visionary Award, which celebrates artists whose work has had a profound cultural influence.
The network reveals why he was chosen:
“Kanye West will be honored for his extraordinary contributions across the arts, including roles as a record producer, rapper, filmmaker and fashion designer. He's a multifaceted trailblazer and pioneer whose accomplishments are all marked by his unique and forward-thinking approach.”
While BET’s award may celebrate his many talents, from recording hit songs to making leather man skirts a thing, it’s far from the only recognition he’s received for his work this year.
Kanye’s song “New Slaves” was nominated for the Grammy for Best Rap Song, and his album, Yeezus, was in the running for Best Rap Album, while the video for “Black Skinhead” was a contender for the MTV VMAs’ Best Hip-Hop Video Honor.
