The Blues went behind after Dusan Tadic crafted a well lobbed pass to Saido Mane who beat John Terry for pace to loft the ball over the onrushing Thibaut Courtois.
However a moment of laxity saw Eden Hazard get the better of Yoshida, driving in to his right and curling in an equaliser past Foster in the closing stages of the game.Chelsea were dominant in the second half and looked the more likely to score the winner, especially when Morgan Schneiderlin was sent off for two bookable offences. But the Saints defended astutely and repelled every onslaught Chelsea threw at them and were able to secure a point.
Meanwhile at the Etihad Stadium it was not routine victory for Manchester City who were expected to beat relegation fighting Burnley.City yet again playing without a striker started the match with James Milner as a false nine.Goals from David Silva and Fernandinho gave Manuel Pellegrini's team a 2-0 lead going into the break.
However, Burnley started the comeback in the second half when Geroge Boyd sneaked in to a get a touch from a cross that beat Joe Hart, although he looked to be off.
The Clarets completed their comeback in the match through Ashley Barnes, scoring a cracker to stun the defending champions and earn his side a point.City will be ruing a missed opportunity to close the gap with Chelsea to just one point as the Blues maintain their three-point lead going into the New Year.At Upton Park, Arsenal yet again held on to dear lives to beat West Ham 2-1 in their London derby.
Arsenal netted two goals in two minutes just before the break to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Santi Cazorla found the net through the spot before Danny Welbeck guided in Oxlade Chamberlain's cross. But West Ham pulled a goal back through Cheikhou Kouyate who headed in off Mathieu Debuchy to halve Arsenal's lead, and it looked like they would eventually find the equaliser.Arsenal had chances to increase their tally but they didn't take it and West Ham didn't find the net either as Arsene Wenger's team secured all three points that moved them up into fifth position.
