Joel Campbell To be Signed by Stoke City January

STOKE City are now set to sign Arsenal starlet Joel Campbell in coming transfer window by January ending.

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, the Potters are among a number of clubs interested in a loan deal for the 22-year-old Costa Rica striker.

The Mirror claim Stoke boss Mark Hughes tried to recruit the talented youngster last summer, and is now ready to test Arsenal’s determination to hang on to him again.

But he will face tough competition for Campbell’s signature, with the likes of West Brom, Swansea, Italian giants Inter Milan and Benfica of Portugal also said to be ready to pounce.

Campbell shot to prominence last season when he scored the goals for loan club Olympiacos that knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League.

He returned to Arsenal in the summer, but has since struggled to establish himself in Arsene Wenger’s Premier League squad, although he did play 90 minutes of the Gunners’ 4-1 Champions League win over Galatasaray this week.

Campbell was recently rumoured to be on his way out of the Emirates again, but Wenger has since insisted he will not be loaned out next month.

He has won 38 caps for Costa Rica since making his senior international debut in 2011, and was a prominent member of their squad that won England’s group at this year’s World Cup in Brazil before losing on penalties to Holland in the quarter-finals.
