President Jonathan's surprise visit to Bornu state

President Goodluck has made an unannounced visit to Maiduguri,Bornu state today.This is coming at a time that Boko Haram insurgents repelled and crushed some of the insurgents who invaded a town Biu near Maiduguri yesterday.


The Chief of Defense staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh and National Security adviser, Sambo Dasuki also arrived at the airport in a separate aircraft Thursday afternoon.

President Jonathan arranged the unscheduled visit to the surprise of the service chiefs who were invited to the villa after the ceremony and then received briefings on President Jonathan’s trip.

The reasons given for the visit by the President is to send a symbolic message by visiting the Military base on this day to boost their morale especially the troops who are on ground fighting at the forefront of the Insurgency campaign in Borno.

The President alongside Governor Shettima of Borno State will visit the site of the Maiduguri Poultry Market where a 10-year old female suicide bomber killed at least 16 people a few days ago and Internally Dispaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in the state.

Jonathan is expected back in Abuja for a meeting with Party chieftains at the Presidential Villa.
